WIP Character Traits

Last week I wrote about how Jake and Delia from my Chasing Delia have sweet arousal and personal growth in their spankings.

My WIP characters Kat and Caleb are a different story. In Taming Kat, Caleb will do anything to Kat he feels she needs. He's a Dom with a capital D. Kat likes the fight, which is good because so does Caleb. He doesn't want sweet submission he hasn't worked for. He knows if he wants Kat to do corner time he better tie her up and put her there himself. And afterwards he may want to sleep with one eye open, because she's going to be angry about it.

Their spankings are heavily about sexual gratification and emotional release.

Caleb (but with short black hair)

Kat

I have a sexy little pre-spanking snippet. Kat is having a low self-esteem pity party and Caleb is having none of it..

Suddenly Caleb ripped the covers back and had her top over her head before she knew what he was doing. He worked her sleep-pants down her thighs as she squealed in protest. She held her arms over her breasts and was squirming away.

“What the hell are you doing?!”

“Making my point,” Caleb said. He had her flimsy sleep-pants ripped down her legs and her flipped over on her belly in a heartbeat. He picked her up by her waist like she weighed nothing, settling her to kneel at the end of her bed facing the mirror.
She took in their reflection. He was breathing hard, kneeling behind her, all sexy man in only his boxer briefs. She was white and shaking. The dim lights shaded what she knew was her bruised cheek and the other high up on her ribs. She had her arms over her breasts and she was naked. They just stared at each other in the mirror a minute before he asked, “What do you see?”

She was looking at him. “A big bully.”

He clenched his jaw and wrapped his arms around to take her wrists. Opening her arms, he placed her palms on the end of the bed frame. “Look at yourself, Kat,” he said. “What do you see?”
She shook her head. She didn't want to play this game.
“Want me to tell you what I see?” he asked, not waiting for an answer. “I see one of the strongest women I've ever met. I see the woman I haven't been able to stop thinking about for seven damn months. I see the woman who's been driving me crazy, ignoring me, even though she flushes red with arousal when she catches me looking at her. I see some of the most beautiful breasts I have ever laid eyes on.”
She had tears in her eyes and shook her head as if to deny his words as he cupped each breast from behind her, pinching her nipples, massaging them, and pinching them again. She could feel his erection pressing into her back and her own mounting arousal between her legs.
“I've dreamed about these breasts, kitten. About these round thighs wrapped around my waist, after I've spanked your ass. Don't think I've forgotten how much you liked that.” She shook her head as he made his point by running his hands down her thighs and around to cup her ass. “You don't think so? Why not?”

        “I'm not anyone's fantasy.”

He grabbed her hips lifting up and pulled her back, so her ass thrust back at him. She had to catch herself on the mattress to keep her balance in a more comfortable position. He moved her hands back up, so she had to look at herself in the mirror.
“Keep your hands up on the bed frame and don't take your eyes off yourself. Do I make myself clear?” When she didn't answer he swatted her ass hard and asked again, “Do I make myself clear?”

“Yes, sir.” Her voice came out wobbly from emotion and arousal. He might have been a domineering ass but it was turning her the hell on.

Taming Kat

Moving halfway across the country to work part-time at a ranch had been a rash decision on Yankee city girl, Kat Martin's part. She understood that. She had just needed to get away from her pesky mom and older sister telling her what she should be doing with her life. She had no idea her bold move was going to put her in close proximity to her one and only one-night-stand, Caleb McCrae.

Kat may not know what she wants to do with her life but she does know she needs to stay well away from sexy neanderthal Caleb, who had strutted into her life and ripped her pants off.

Caleb is officially done with military life and is ready to settle down. He's bought a stake in the ranch he grew up working at and is building a beautiful house. Now all he has to do is wrangle the one that got away. Kat Martin has been haunting his thoughts and steaming up his dreams ever since she skipped out on him after one of the hottest nights of his life. She may be giving him the cold shoulder now, but he knows just how to heat her up.

Warning: Contains one crystal ball reading mama, one gal with commitment issues and a sassy mouth, and one cowboy that believes his belt was meant for more than holding up his pants.

My Characters--Their Spanking is Different Than Mine

One of my longtime besties is in the midst of reading my book Chasing Delia. She just sent me a text, Is Kat me? (Kat is Delia's best friend and heroine of Taming Kat--coming this January)

This made me chuckle. No. In fact Kat's personality is more like mine than any of my characters, yet she's still completely different.

All my characters are uniquely their own people. My heroes aren't my dream men. They're my heroines' dream men. What they want from their hero isn't necessarily what I want from mine.

I didn't realize how much my characters were their own people until I wrote a post on Humiliation vs. Ownership. (the post just after this one) What I write is often quite different from the dark subject matter I usually read. How I felt about both humiliation and ownership and what I'm into would be horrifying to my H/h in Chasing Delia.

Jake wouldn't want to make Delia feel humiliated by a spanking. He is a super loving spanker. Delia is so submissive she has to work at getting a back bone. She would never dream of doing anything purposely just to get spanked. (yet) They're in the beginning of their spanking relationship and just figuring things out. Their spankings are about arousal, but also personal growth.

Here's a spanking excerpt from Chasing Delia:

Settling into position she jumped a little when his ran his hand down her bottom, filling her body with aching awareness. He chuckled, “I'm going to spank you now, star shine.”

I know.” Her voice was small and shook more from longing than fear.

Do you know why?”

I, uuh,” She had some thoughts as to why, but damned if she could think when his hand caressed down her thigh and back up to gently explore her heat.

I'm going to spank you for pulling away from me, when you should have told me what was going on in that mind of yours, Del. I'm going to spank you because I know you like it. And dammit Del, I going to spank you cause I've been dreaming of it since the first time I had you spread out across my lap.”

The last part came out as a growl. His palm landed sharply on her bottom, hard enough to rock her forward. He pulled back and peppered her again and again. She cried out. Bracing herself, she clung to the sheets. The spanking was definitely more punishing than the first one, but that didn't stop the heat of each strike from going straight to her core. Back and forth, left, then right. He struck each cheek in equal measure, with stinging force. If he held back she couldn't tell. Her bottom was a throbbing mass. She could feel the tears track down the side of her face, yet she held her bottom up in the air for each strike he delivered, silently begging for more. She felt once again overwhelmed and confused by the lust his spanking invoked. She wanted to be punished, she would have begged to be punished.

Chasing Delia

With the delivery of one Dear John letter and a set of divorce papers, Delia Myers is on a her way to self discovery. First stop: Embracing she's a terrible judge of character. Especially when it comes to men.

Jake Forrester is a small town cop, who is beyond charming, and hunky enough to have every female in a hundred mile radius panting after him. Basically everything she is trying to avoid. Too bad he's been determined to chase after her from the second he's laid eyes on her oversized floral granny panties.

She may run, but can she hide from love?

Warning; Contains one no-good, cheating ex-husband, a heroine with a propensity to make a run for it, and a hero that has a new found love for spanking a certain sassy woman who runs from him.

Ownership Vs. Humiliation

Thank you Spanking Romance and Joelle Casteel for hosting today's Spanking Round Table Discussion! We have a great topic today:

Ownership vs. Humiliation.

For me it's not a versus as much as an and.

The first thought that came to my mind when I read the word humiliation was punishment. To me if I'm getting spanked, I'm being dominated. And getting spanked while in a loving relationship to me feels like my ass is my dominate's ass to spank or punish as he sees fit. In other words, I feel owned.

I don't think ownership is always black and white. Often there is gray area, and in that area lies the feelings being owned evoke. Or the feelings you want it to evoke.

I want to feel cared for and cherished, but...sometimes I want to explore the darker side of the gray area.

How much you will feel humiliated on any level, sexual or otherwise, depends on your concept of humiliation which differs for everyone.

Domination/Ownership and me: I really like the fight. I like to be made to submit. I want to feel my spanker/dominate's superiority and be annoyed by it. That's my thing. I don't want to come willingly. I'm going to do things to intentionally get spanked/punished in a way that is out of my control. This in turn is going to cause some humiliation with a touch of fear. That's the kind of humiliation spanking that is going to trip my trigger. I don't get into extreme humiliation, but I'm quite positive the humiliation and degradation I like would be a hard limit for someone else.

And really, it's a mind set.

Quite honestly when I read a punishment spanking scene the humiliation is implied whether the author intended or not, because that's what I would be feeling. That's were my mind goes. I"m often drawn to the humiliation punishments, even though my mind rebels against them.

Some of my favorite books--with or without spanking--have dehumanization themes. The three that first came to my mind were Maren Smith's Pets, C. L. Scholey Bay's Mercenary, and Cara Bristol's Breeder. Bay's Mercenary isn't even spanking or erotic, but it turned me on big time. And the heroine in Breeder, Omra, doesn't have a concept of humiliation in what is happening to her, but you the reader feels it for her nonetheless.

In all these stories the women are owned, and even though the women are well taken care of, they are seen as pets who aren't an intelligent species. They are made to do things they don't want to do. They are chastised/punished in ways they wouldn't choose, by men that feel they are superior to these women in every way.

The whole process is humiliating.

It's why I love sci-fi. The theme of humiliating dehumanization is a big one. Ownership is often horribly humiliating before it becomes liberating in these books. The owner always has a superiority complex.

Okay, I may have a thing for hunky aliens, too.

Humiliation before liberation is also something that really trips my trigger when reading dark erotica. Kitty Thomas's Comfort Food is a great example of a woman that is broken down in every way, fights against being owned, until finally she's liberated by being owned--by a sadist with a superiority complex. There's a twist to that, but what is dark erotica without a psychological twist?

Don't get me wrong. I also love books like Cherise Sinclair's To Command and Collar, which is an extremely loving M/s story with a Master who has an understated superiority complex. I'm just more likely to read M/s stories like Cari Silverwood's Make Me Yours Evermore, which is loving in its own f*&%ed up non-loving way. And Master is a sadist with a giant superiority complex.

So, yes to it all. I would like my spankings to be caring, humiliating shows of ownership by a loving man with a superiority complex. Easy peasy, right?

And since I feel weird not having at least one ridiculous meme;

I'm NOT Going To Write Today

*pic dedicated to Casey McKay

I have people coming into town this weekend and a house that hasn't been cleaned in a month. Oh, I've done things like washed clothes, but the overall state of my house is a tag...neglected.

Last night my conversation with my husband went like this:

ME: I'm cleaning the house tomorrow. <I say this forcefully like I'm going to conquer Sparta>

HUSBAND: <Not looking up from his phone> Okay

ME: No, I'm going to f%$^ing do it. I'm cleaning the f&%*ing house tomorrow.

HUSBAND: <Looks over his phone to pin me with a look>  Are you threatening me?

ME: <eyes widen> Maybe...<considers the possibilities> wait, no. I'm hyping myself up! I can't write tomorrow. I canNOT write tomorrow. No writing. Just cleaning. Then I'm going to read. No writing.

HUSBAND: <gives me a dubious look, then goes back to reading an article on his phone--that is the size of a tablet and not used for talking>

ME: <start muttering under my breath, I'm going to do it, I'm going to clean like a crazy person>

I wrote three blog posts before buckling down to start cleaning. I got a good thirty minutes of cleaning in before I started writing again. That is the law of probability.

If you are hung up on a story, you will have a breakthrough at the least opportune moment.

If you are supposed to be writing, you will be doing anything but writing.

If you are supposed to be doing anything but writing, you will be writing.

The Girl With The Penis Cake Mold

You may not know this but I'm the go-to penis cake girl. Girls night out, birthdays, break-ups, just because--I'm the person others ask for penis cake. I'm kind of known for my penis cakes, and I'm not sure how that happened.

Many years ago I bought a penis cake mold for a "Mommies Night Out" party. This was the kind of get together where sleep deprived, strung out, women gathered to drink too much--and get silly as possible--in the limited amount of time allotted them before their husband calls with a crisis he is incapable of handling.

I remember my husband rolling his eyes while I was baking the penis shaped pastry. I asked him if he wanted me to save a piece of penis for him. He huffed, "That is so wrong. No, I don't want any penis cake."

Fast forward eight years later. Now when I ask him if he wants me to save him a piece of penis cake I get a resounding, "Hell yeah! What kind you making?"

I've ruined the man. He is impervious to my penis shaped baked good and no longer able to be shocked. Not by me. He's been with me too long.

The penis cake mold is a great investment if you have the kind of friends I do. It's truly the gift that keeps on giving, and a source of constant juvenile entertainment. What you may not know is; it's really hard to bake a yummy penis cake.

The reason being, the cake pan is extremely shallow. (I could make a pop-culture joke but I'll refrain)

If you use a mix (no one will judge you for using a mix on a penis cake) only about half of it will be used on the cake. You'll be able to get roughly nine cupcakes, or a 9'' round cake, from the remaining batter. The penis will need to stay in the oven longer than the cupcakes. Despite the pan being shallow, it takes the balls and shaft a bit longer to bake all the way through than the head.

Keeping the penis moist is key to a good experience.

This makes the use of apple sauce extremely important. If you use a mix, at least 1/2 a cup of apple sauce should be added. If you make from scratch (look at you Betty Homemaker) add around 3/4 cup to 1 cup.

You do not just want to make a penis cake. You want the recipients to gleefully orally assault the penis cake while making yummy noises.

Happy Penis Cake Baking!

I bid you adieu, for now. Until next time.

Thank You For Being Awesome

My first book came out this weekend rocketing me out to cloud nine. Anyone who has published a book for the first time knows the riotous emotions that happen. If you haven't ever published a book, well, for me it was a lot like my labor and delivery experience. And yes, I am comparing publishing a book to the birth of my child. Both were intensely emotional experiences. People tried to warn me, but I scoffed. I really didn't think I'd freak out. I think I was doing Lamaze breathing at one point.

It's all kind of a blur.

I was a hot mess on Friday, but it was worth it to get my book out into the world. Thankfully I haven't experienced any postpartum. I've just been feeling really grateful.

Thank you to everyone who bought my book, are going to buy my book, or just offered me support and encouragement along the way. I'm so lucky to belong to such a positive wonderful community. I'm just a small fries author gal, but I feel like a million bucks. Or at least something in the upper six figures range. I wish I could bottle this feeling. I'm not usually a sentimental person but if I could hug the world I would.

I hope anyone who is reading my book right now is enjoying it. If not, I beg you to keep it on the down low until tomorrow at the very least. I'm  having a positivity parade today. Let the band circle around town a time or two.

Thank you everyone for being awesome!!

One More Day!!

On Sale Friday, November 7th!!!

Jake felt huge and imposing looking down on such a fragile thing. She looked so deflated and lost. His heart constricted a little. He had dealt with a lot perps and victims over the years. He always had a cool head and knew when to leave emotions out of it. Rational and controlled were the traits that had gotten him captain. Never had he felt less rational than he did looking at this woman with tears tracking down her cheeks. Not even realizing that he covered her hand with his, he gave it a squeeze.

“I don’t need you to comfort me,” she said.

“Odd, you seem to look like a person who needs comforting.”

Preparing For My Release!

My book, Chasing Delia, is going to be available for purchase this Friday, November 7th! Woot woot!! I'm understandably excited and doing my booty shake over here. (consider yourself fortunate to not be witnessing it live)

*Cue This Magic Moment by The Drifters

Excerpt

Delia’s head was pounding. The overhead light made her eyes feel as if they were going to throb out of their sockets. Her mouth felt like cotton and paste. Getting her bearings she scanned the hospital room, noticing the three men standing by the door and a nurse next to the bed checking the IV.

The doctor, a round little man with too much aftershave and beady eyes behind his glasses, poked and prodded with sweaty hands. Shining his pin light in her sensitive eyes he ordered precautionary scans done, but assured her that he didn’t suspect internal damage and she should be fine.

Not dead, I’m not dead. The mantra played over and over again in her head.

    “You’re awake.”

This came from a tall, overly good looking man, that now stood alone in the room. She searched his face trying to place him. He looked like he could be an underwear model. Did this man know her? How long had she been out? These and about a million other questioned popped into her head. However, before she could even open her mouth the man was talking again in gentle tones.

He inched closer to the bed as he spoke as if not to scare her away. Not that she could go anywhere as weak and disoriented as she felt.

“How ya feel’n? You’ve got a pretty good gash on your head. I’m sure your head is throbbing. I’m surprised you’re even awake. I’m Captain Jake Forrester. I pulled you from your truck. Do you remember anything? Do you know where you are?”

Feeling even more disoriented than she did before she said the only thing that she could think of. “I’m not dead.”
