Mind Blowing Taboo Breakers

After I finished Kaden's Breeder by Emma Paul, (loved that book) I read a few good books but nothing was jumping out and grabbing me by the proverbial balls. I wanted my mind blown. I think I even said out loud “I wish I could find a book that just blows my mind”.

Enter Taboo Breakers

I had downloaded this one about two weeks ago and promptly put it on my TBR list. I love Lawrence Block. I've enjoy his fiction Hit Man series. I have a crush on his Hit Man character John Keller, a quirky assassin, and I have a feeling I'd feel the same about his Bernie Rhodenbar, star of his comic mystery novels.

You may know Lawrence Block from his Matthew Scudder novels about a recovering alcoholic PI. They are serious mysteries and his best known work. The 1986 movie Eight Million Ways to Die with Jeff Bridges, Rosanna Arquette and Andy Garcia is based on the fifth book in that series.

I also have a thing for Lawrence Block. His writing makes me hot. There is something about male writers and scientist that really turns me on. Not all of them, just the ones I'm impressed by and really enjoy reading their work. 

Example; Jeremy Edwards writes erotocomedy, he has a massive thesaurus and wildly enjoyable characters.  He's a scrappy guy with a big nose. He wouldn't normally be considered sexy but his writing makes him hot. Put him in a lab coat and glasses, holding a bunsen burner and beaker and I'll be positively drooling. 

I had only read Mr.Blocks fictions but I still feel the same way about him. He could be an ancient three hundred pound chain smoker that reeks of Bengay and I would still find him sexy as hell.(I don't actually know what he looks like.) His books aren't meant to be erotic, that I know of, but they still have sex appeal. I was delighted to find out that Lawrence Block wrote erotica in his salad days. 

Although he did write for the 'porn paper back industry' from the late 1950's to the early 1970's, these particular books are not erotica in the sense that they are not fiction. No my friends, this one in particular is a documentary. I haven't been so enthralled by a documentary read ever as I was by this book.

My girlfriend, that downloads and reads almost all the same books as I do, called and said, “Oh. My. God. Have you gotten to Taboo Breakers yet?” That statement alone bumped that book to the top of my reading list.

I'm a twenty first century woman. I'm in my thirties and I've been around the block. Like many I'm not really shocked by much. Media has extreme scenarios real and fake all over the place.

I've volunteered at my local women's shelter. I've heard the stories that brought those women and girls there. Some as young as twelve kicked out of their house for being promiscuous or getting picked up and sold as a prostitute. (Average age of a prostitute in America is 14 with over, shockingly, 200,000 girls being illegally sold for sex in the U.S. today.)

I watch documentaries about everything under the sun. I watch 20/20, Dateline, Dexter, Spartacus and Game of Thrones, all shows featuring some beyond twisted stuff that you never saw or heard about forty five years ago. I'm assuming. I wasn't around.

I read some crazy stuff. All fiction. Maybe that's the difference. 

Before I began reading Taboo Breakers I was prepared for the antiquated notions of the individuals (mostly swingers) being interviewed in 1968. There is plenty of that. I was also prepared for the mentality of the swingers. I had friends growing up whose parents where swingers. I have friends who used to swing. It's not like these things aren't still prevailing... I wasn't prepared for this.

Taboo Breakers starts out setting up the premise and history of the different kinds of swingers circa 1968. John Warren Wells, (aka; Lawrence Block) goes over all the different code words and lingo used in setting up meetings and advertising. I found that interesting and wondered how many of those terms were still used today. 

Then the book quickly delves into a playful interview with a traditional swinging couple that tell of their maiden voyage and sexcapades with their stereotypical key-in-fishbowl wife swapping group.

The telling really draws you in and JWW cuts out any boring mundane details to keep it moving. As the interview and tales move onto other individuals I found myself more and more transfixed. Before I knew it I was halfway through the book and that's when the mind bomb is dropped. WTF?!

Mind. Blown.

Think of every wealthy sociopath villain from every Regency, Victorian, Gothic and contemporary novel you've ever read. Like the really good 'n twisted ones.

Then imagine reading a real interview with those people. Just raw, uncensored, uncut, them telling the most jaw dropping shit like they are discussing a tennis match at the club. 

I don't think sociopaths are that honest in interviews anymore. There are just too many repercussions these days. This is so unguarded.  Authors that need material and want to stir up the old think tank, go ahead and read this one.

Our twenty first century has been all about opening Pandora's box and revealing all the dirty little secrets every faucet of society has to offer. I can't help but believe this couple would be a Dateline, 20/20, 60 Minutes type exclusive with interviews by Diane Sawyer, and what I can only think of as their victims appearing on Oprah.

There isn't anything in this interview that I didn't know was prevalent in the world, even today, yet I can't get it out of my mind. I haven't had a book stay with me like this, in such haunting detail, since reading Inside the Outside by Martin Lastrapes, and that was 110% twisted fiction about a teenage cannibal who grows up in a cult and is seeing the outside world for the first time....

The rest of Taboo Breakers is still very interesting but not even close to as shocking as the middle. The orgiastic couple in the second half of the book is a breath of fresh air, the Sadie Mae couple (1968 term for BDSM) were sweet as could be and I found myself wanting to see a happy ending for the single male swinger towards end.

I really wish there was a follow up to this book. Just a page of what happened to these people, where they are, how their lives moved on and if and how they died.

I would also love to bring back the vernacular, 'balling', and 'pop', as in, This guy was so revved up he was ready to pop and we hadn't even gotten down to balling. 

While interviewing and in the narration of the book JWW remains nonpartisan but I would love to know what he was thinking while all these people were spilling their guts.

Although not exactly titillating, I found Taboo Breakers to be absolutely fascinating.

This book is 153 pages and is available for free with many of his other JWW titles if you have Amazon Prime.

Lawrence Block has quite a few other non-fictions by John Warren Wells from the late 1960's and early 1970's that are now available in e-book at Amazon.

 I for one already have a TBR list going. My eyebrows were raising just reading the description of Beyond Group Sex and a few others.

Gambling On The Unknown and Galactic Breeders

When buying a book by an author I know and love the purchase comes easy. Usually, like most people, I'm excited about the release and salivating for my chance to sit down and read it. Gambling on an unknown author is much more difficult to do. There is a chance the book may suck and I personally NEVER ask for a refund. EVER. 

There is actually a petition you can sign stating e-book publishers like Amazon shouldn't be allowed to give a refund after a person has owned the e-book for seven days. So, if you purchased by accident you have seven days to make sure it's returned. 

I think this is extremely reasonable, but I tend to side with the authors. I love to read. I want them to make money so that they keep writing and I can keep reading. (If you agree please sign the petition that will be waiting for you at the bottom of the post.)

 I will admit that I have my go-to authors and I am subject to hype. I'll check out books that are extremely popular and or getting a lot of buzz. Quite often I read the hype books and end up just not that into them.

Years ago I branched out and started buying more and more of the unknown authors. Even before I started mainly buying e-books I had begun reading lesser known and indie or self published authors.

I remember digging through the clearance bin at Books-A-Million and finding Catherine Spangler's Sheilder for a dollar. This is a sci-fi romance that kicks off her Shielder series, a series that I couldn't get enough of. These are bodice ripping sci-fis that are a blast to read. I had to search high and low in order to obtain them all but it was worth the hunt. 

Those books stay in my 'In Case of Apocalypse' chest, so that I may take them with me into the wild to read again and again, harpooning anyone who tries to steal them with my (what I assume will be) homemade spear.

Catherine Spangler's newer books can be found in e-book but I really wish she would upload her Shielder series. That remains one of my all time favorite sci-fi romance series.

Now I read unknowns almost exclusively and I've found some of my favorite sci-fi romance and sci-fi erotic authors this way. Let's face it, sci-fi romance, and erotic sci-fi haven't exactly ever been main stream. I don't think sci-fi in general has ever been main stream. 

Good news is girl geeks are on the rise and so are the number of rocking sci-fi romances and erotica.

Everyone knows I adore Tracy St. John, if you're new to me, I adore Tracy St. John. I'm in love with her alien series Clans of Kalquor. I'm pretty serious about it. I have fan t-shirts and shit. I love other books and series but I have an emotional attachment to everything Kalquor.

I stumbled upon her quite by chance and it was her controversial reviews that attracted me to trying her books. She is known for her boundary pushing sex scenes. Her last book Alien Refuge, is quite tame and has a very romantic tone, which is controversial in it's own right.

Normally romance doesn't have three heroes and butt sex. (it really should though)

Tracy rocked the romance, and it totally fit this particular story. Although completely unexpected it was a great book. The fans that have been pushing for more gentle consideration from the Kalquorians, were ecstatic and it shows in the reviews.  

I loved Alien Refuge, but I would be lying if I said I wouldn't be a little heart broken if that was the direction she were going for the rest of her series. I know she has warned us FoKs that Sister Katherine's book is going to be tame but, that's just two out of many. I doubt she would go tame for all the books she has planned...She wouldn't, right?

Another sci-fi lady I'd like to mention is Kiersten Fay. A few months ago I grabbed up a freebie on Amazon by Kiersten Fay named Demon Possession (book one Shadow Quest). I almost didn't get it. I'm not a paranormal fantasy girl and with a title like Demon Possession what else was I to think?

Color me surprised when I discovered it's a sci-fi romance. There are paranormal fantasy elements but not even close to the amount other sci-fi romance and erotic writers are sneaking in these days.

Her Shadow Quest series is a can't miss for sci-fi romance readers. And they are 120% romance.

Goodreads (I'm not a fan) have these under a few categories including erotic. FYI, If I bought these thinking they were erotic books I would be a little pissed. I think Goodreads needs to look up the definition of erotic. Her next book, the fourth and I believe the last in the series, Demon Untamed is something I look forward to.

Kiersten Fay describes herself as a paranormal romance writer with a little sci-fi thrown in. I beg to differ. Maybe she's trying to appeal to a bigger reading audience. She does seem to have quite a few paranormal reviewers that claim to have enjoyed her 'sci-fi'. Maybe she's in denial. Either way, these are excellent books.

The book I really want to talk about, Kaden's Breeder (Book One Galactic Breeders) by Emma Paul, can not be confused for anything other than an unknown sci-fi erotica. I'm super excited about this book and eagerly anticipate the next book in the series. I hope it's as good as the first.

Before I talk about this book let me say, I've had readers ED for about two weeks now. I've just not been in the mood to read. Everything I do read I've been pissy about, mental ripping these books to shreds in my mind.

I honestly went into this book with a few prejudices and I was prepared not to like it. Emma Paul's other books are paranormal and fantasy. Although this is the first book in a sci-fi series it's her only sci-fi. I expected it to be a menagerie of paranormal fantasy dressed up as a sci-fi at best. I couldn't have been more wrong. 

You may be wondering why I bought this book feeling this way.

Well, the heroine is abducted by aliens and I'm seriously a sucker for Stockholm Syndrome love stories. Plus the one and only review she has for this book is five stars and says some stuff about dreadlocks that is right up my alley. I was intrigued.

Picture him, super tall, super built and skin the color of his eyes. Oh yeah, and those dreadlocks are actually silky smooth tentacles about a pencil width round. Kaden.

I sat down to read this book and barely came up for air. I read it so quickly and enjoyed it so thoroughly I wasn't sure if I had imagined how good it was so I read it again. Yep, this book rocked my socks off.

Kaden's Breeder (Book One Galactic Breeders) By Emma Paul

Carina is lying in bed in her condo when a humming followed by a scanning red light flashes outside her bedroom window. All of a sudden she's being pulled into a ship.

The Mantra, big multi legged strange bug like aliens, are collecting breeders for their Tri Galaxy area. Breeders are optimally fertile humanoid women that are capable of interbreeding with other species. They are collected from planets in the Galactic Governing Council.

Earth isn't in a solar system even close to a galaxy in the Galactic Governing Council, so it's very unexpected when Carina finds herself on board a ship being prepared as a breeder. It's even more disconcerting when she finds herself on a strange planet called Yor, running from a hundred horny men of questionable species, participating in the Mating Hunt.

Kaden is a Dreg, a species made completely of men that depend on breeders for the survival of their race. He has been waiting to participate in the Mating Hunt for twelve long years. As soon as he sees Carina, he knows she is the one. Unfortunately as soon as he tracks her down he finds out that the Mantra have made a mistake. 

She wasn't meant to be delivered to Yor. She was abducted illegally to be used for nefarious alien reasons worthy of a freaky sci-fi movie featuring Sigourney Weaver.

The Trellian slavers, the Grubs and the Mantras are all after her. Carina doesn't know any of this. All she knows is that she's been labeled a breeder, mated to a greenish hunk of a sexy man with hair that seems to have it's own muscular structure, and she's way more okay with her situation than she should be.

While she's mentally warring with her predicament, and having deliciously wicked sex with her alien Kaden, he's fighting a war of his own trying to find a way to keep his breeder.

That's the quick run down, but there is so much more to this book that I don't want to get into and ruin for the reader.

 Kaden's Breeder is a fast paced read that kept me on the edge of my seat in all the places it was supposed to. The plot is well done and doesn't once taper off. This is a smoking hot read but not a BDSM.

On Amazon in the description it says 'a BDSM twist'. I finished the book before realizing there isn't even a hint of BDSM anywhere in this book. So, just an FYI. I loved it just the way it was, but no BDSM.

I will say there are a few typos that can be forgiven in lieu of such a great story. I only mention them because there are some very noticeable ones in the first chapter sample I downloaded and that could reader block the less tolerant reader. They shouldn't stop anyone from enjoying this book.

Emma Paul brings to life a well thought out alternate universe. I was completely drawn in and could clearly see all the different alien races, strange vegetation and existence on Yor. I'm glad I took a gamble on the unknown, typos and all. Kaden's Breeder was a marvelous find. 

This book is 159 pages

Warning: This book contains graphic sex with the use of alien attributes and the depiction of m/m sex that does not involve the hero. <----p.s. That little bit of m/m was hot. Wouldn't mind seeing more of that with a future hero. Just saying. ; )

I loved all the characters and I'm really looking forward to Corbin's Captive (Book Two Galactic Breeder).

Menage

I never really embraced just how many different kinds of kinky sex turned me on until I read about them in a book. Is it any wonder? I was weaned on romance form the cradle. Growing up, I read all of my mom's  Catherine Coulter, Amanda Quick, Jude Deveraux, Julie Garwood, ect...Then I started stealing grandma's Connie Masons. Wowzas. That woman can write some pantie scorching love scenes.

As an adult I started reading historical erotic romances by authors like Robin Schone and Emma Holly, then I started wanting more from romance.

The first menage book I ever bought, Christina's Tapestry by NJ Walters, was back in 05' during the covered wagon pioneer days of e-books. Elloras Cave, the foremother of selling erotica in e-book format, was coining the phrase Romantica, making it more acceptable for romance readers to segue into reading salacious books. There were no kindles or nooks then, so all e-books were downloaded onto the computer.

I want to take a moment to give appreciation to Elloras Cave founder Tina Engler. Not only did Elloras Cave trademark the phrase Romantica but they were the founders of the rating system and warnings at the beginning of erotic fiction. That's right. It had never really been done before. For that, Thank You, Tina Engler!

Chritina's Tapestry, my first real menage book, was an eye opening experience. I had read some f/f/m and I had read an anal sex scene before in Robin Schone's Gabriels Woman, but never a double penetration.

Hellooo Menage!

Christina's Tapestry is a m/f/m menage with no interaction between the men, the men in question being brothers.

Christina Beaumont, our chubby blond down on her luck heroine, is transported through a tapestry to a medieval realm where women are rare and fought over. In this realm, one brother marries a wife and claims all her children, but that one wife is shared per three brothers, all getting one week with her alone or shared. Some marriages are open and they are all together all the time. In some cases like Christina, Jarek and Marc, the wife falls in love with one man and only shares herself if her main husband is with her.

My heart broke for Marc like everyone else that read that book. I'm not sure if it was by design or destiny that the author made Christina only fall in love with Jarek, because Marc does get his own book (Threads of Destiny book 4) later in the series.

Book three, Woven Dreams is actually my favorite book in this series. In book two you meet and fall in love with delectable twin brothers Jarmon and Garrik. They marry Genny, the first tapestry bride not sent by the magic of the tapestry. Their wife loves them both equally, a point she makes abundantly clear after seeing despondent Marc at a gathering. By then you can't wait to see Marc's HEA in book 4. Over all a great steamy fantasy series and it kicked off years of my menage reading.

The next menage books I read were Lora Leigh's Bound Hearts books. Here Lora Leigh has set up a sharing club for wealthy and powerful men who like to share their women in a m/f/m style. Lora Leigh really hits home my love of domination and submission in all her stories. Since the woman’s empowerment became really big in the 90's D/s still wasn't getting a lot of play in romance or erotica. That really only started trending towards the end of our first decade in the twenty first century.

Then in 07' I hit the mother load with Theolyn Boese's, erotic sci-fi/fantasy, Daughters of Terra (Book One of the Ta'e'sha Chronicles). Published under Loose Id it came with a wicked disclaimer but no warning that it was a m/m/f menage. I had read f/f interaction in erotica plenty of times, but never m/m. I was in heaven.

I've always thought of hot alpha bisexual men, that adore the pussy as much as the cock, as unicorns. If they do exist they probably shit rainbows. That didn't stop me from fantasizing about being at one end or another of a man love train. I've always been titillated by the idea of two men. Popping in some gay porn would not be unusual for me. The more cock the better.

I was well into my twenties before I met other women who were just as turned on by m/m action as I was. Finding authors that wrote m/m/f was akin to hearing angels sing. I've gone onto read countless other variations of menage books from many different authors but my first m/m/f has always been near to my heart.

Daughers of Terra (book one The Ta'e'sha Chronicles) by Theolyn Boese

Thea is an ordinary woman, waiting tables, reading naughty books and making clothes to sell at Renaissance Fairs. Then she awakens to find her self the married genetically altered mate to two sexy strange men that can turn into what she can only assume are mermen.

Kyrin and Daeshen are Ta'e'shain mates that have been studying Earth and collecting women suitable to come live in their culture and ...have their babies. Kyrin and Daeshen hadn't really been planning on taking a Earther mate until they encounter Thea. She's everything they could ever dream of and so they steal her for their own.

Thea is the perfect mate for them. Although justifiably upset, Thea quickly decides to make the best of the situation. Besides, being married to two gorgeous shape shifting men who make all her sexual fantasies come true, isn't exactly a bad time.

Just when Thea truly accepts her place in the men's life and the Ta'e'shain culture a threat that has been stalking the human women on board the ship comes after her.

This book blends sci-fi heavily with paranormal fantasy, making this read a nice blend of mythology, religion and futuristic science.The characters have a fun and open dialogue, the sex scenes are hot and you run a full spectrum of emotions while reading this story.

Anyone who has read my Shifty Shifters post know I have a fear of animal shifters. For some strange reason the thought of making love with alien half fish men, that have muscles in their hair, and subsequently having their half fish babies only seems natural to me.  I guess I just have a thing for mermen. ; )

This book is 224 pages

Warning: This book contains explicit sexual content, graphic language, and some situations readers may find objectionable including, dubious consent, anal play/intercourse, bondage, piercing, m/m/f menage, m/m sexual practices and sex with alien cock.

If you like this book you will enjoy the next book in the series Shards of the Mind (Book two of the Ta'e'sha Chronicles). I'm not a paranormal fantasy girl and this one runs heavier with the mythological religion tones with lots of Gods and Goddesses, which at times was a bit much for me, but I may have liked this one even better than the first.

While Theolyn Boese does do a spin off series, The Ta'e'sha Caesurae, I do hope she will write books for a few of the other secondary characters you fall in love with in book one and two.

According to Theolyn Boese's page she has returned to writing after what had been a long hiatus. I wish her luck and lots of writing. Kyrin, Daeshen and Thea will always be some of my favorite characters.

I'm a Writer Not an Editor

In 2007-2008 The Kelsey Group, Word of Mouth Marketing Association, Forrester Research and comSore, discovered rating and reviews really did make a difference in what consumers were consuming.

After this big name stores started using their customer reviews in advertisements and every consumer with an opinion took notice.

From restaurants to furniture stores you can find a review about them online. The site with the most consumer reviews? Amazon. The product most reviewed? Books.

A Million Random Digits by RAND Corporation a book about how RAND came up with their technology and made money had 377 reviews with 1,983 of 2,056 finding the top review helpful. That particular review was about the book, but most of that book's reviews were about e-copy editing issues.

One of the most read and reviewed books on Amazon is George R.R. Martin's Game Of Thrones getting a whopping 3,284 reviews with 4,476 of 4,688 finding the top review helpful. The second most rated review for this book was all about, you guessed it, editing, with 1,986 of 2,117 finding it helpful.

If you're familiar with Amazon and their reviews you know when a person takes the time to sign in and click the 'YES, I found this helpful' button under a book review, it's because they have already bought it and they strongly agree or disagree. That's a lot of people very upset about editing. Why all the mistakes?

Times are changing but it seems like e-book publishing is just now starting to make changes. The authors that are self publishing don't have the money to pay an editor let alone a sub-editor. Having a fancy publisher and editor doesn't always guarantee perfection.

The way a book is uploaded and formatted in e-lit is completely different than paper. More than that the programs used to upload the author's copies are just now getting an upgrade.

Really? 

Yep, the programs used in e-lit upload are vastly outdated. Mistakes are made then first drafts are recognized and scanned by flawed programs instead of the appropriate copy. The correct draft can be uploaded but then the scanning program changes the book's format.

I've seen every kind of e-lit snafu out there and as an avid reader some are more annoying than others.

I just read The Ivy League by Ruby Parker. The story itself reeled me in and kept me hooked (even though it didn't sizzle my panties). What threw me off a little was how many times the main character Sara became Sarah with an H, for a paragraph or two. When Sara went from having coal black hair to having soft blond at the end of Chapter Twelve I knew something was up.

I'm horrible at editing my own work. I can reread my own writing twenty times and miss a simple mistake twenty times. A character detail change is pretty obvious. So was the first draft uploaded instead of the final copy or was that the 'edited copy'. Regardless of the flaws I enjoyed the book but I know I'm the exception not the rule.

I recently read a reader blog post, Why Some Indie Authors Fail by Rich Adin 'The Digital Reader'. He starts off things nicely with how Indie writers need a better notification system to when their new books are coming out. Then the article takes a dive sighting Indie writers who don't have editors and use poor grammar are plain disrespectful to readers.

I've never felt any personal insult when reading a poorly edited book, but from the comments on this guy's page and other reviewer sites, many readers do in fact take personal umbrage from the slightest grammatical error.

The grammatical errors are hurting my soul.

Do grammatical and formatting mistakes drive you nuts? You may suffer from a not so very serious condition called Grammatical Pedantry Syndrome or GPS. This is a form of OCD that causes a person to not be able to over look bad grammar or grammatical errors. I shit you not. This is a real form of OCD and could be keeping you from enjoying a good book.

So ask yourself:

- Are you able to read and enjoy anything not properly edited or formatted?

- Do you lose all sense of enjoyment and respect for an article at the first misplaced comma?

- Do you correct friends and strangers, verbally or mentally when they use who instead of whom?

- Are you even now editing this post?

If you've answered yes to any or all of the above questions you may have GPS and this may be affecting how you see the world. If you are an editor or an English teacher, well done, you have found a way to get paid for something you compulsively do anyways.

I empathize, for some of you grammatical errors actually make your skin crawl.

My girlfriend recently lamented her hate of exclamation points in narratives. She became quite heated about this. Just the thought of those pesky exclamation points were pissing her off. I've never noticed an exclamation point in a narrative. I had no idea what she was talking about mainly because like so many on the other side, I'm an error maker. I make it rain typos. I type words backwards, I use affect when I should have used effect, lay when it should have been lie, and I am a recovering comma abuser.

Quite honestly, I would probably put an exclamation point in a narrative. I'm not sure how half my friends have kept up a texting/email relationship with me. For all of my GPS gal pals, thank you. I've noticed you've stopped correcting my notes. Either you've gotten busier or I'm wearing you down.

                                               The Reviews Don't Look Good

The e-book uploading process may be reader blocking the lesser known authors. We already know reviews affect the consumer.

Book reviews can be especially harsh and authors feel no cushion of being a franchise or a large company. When you review a book you are broadcasting your personal opinion about one person's work.

What happens when the consumer blames the author for the format and/or editing? Is it always the author's fault?

You've seen 'those' reviews:

This seemed like a good book but the formatting was so bad I couldn't finish it! What a waste of money. There were so many errors, (unknown author) needs to hire an editor!

 I feel bad for these readers, but then I download the book and I don't get how they couldn't finish it. That's when I feel bad for the writer. That one negative review may have cost that author countless readers.

Eloisa James had a New York best seller with her fans in a tizzy because of the e-copy being riddled with formatting and editing errors. Her fans were upset, but they still bought the book because it was Eloisa James. The unknown and especially the indie author doesn't get that type of consideration even if the book in itself is wonderful.

Let's not over look a good book because of a few errors. Many of the books with grammatical or formatting errors that have people complaining up a storm, I've enjoyed just fine. I still notice the errors, but rarely do they impede my reading pleasure.

I'm not saying reviewers shouldn't mention the found errors at all. I just think a three paragraph freak out over a formatting snafu may be over kill, and most of us didn't even notice the misuse of your and you're on page 52. I believe mentioning the error helps the people with GPS know what they are getting into without hindering people like me from buying the book.

So, do you have GPS? I know there are many of you out there. Try to understand the person writing the book you're mentally editing isn't a complete idiot. Calling an author an unprofessional amateur for having tech/editing issues is uncalled for. He/she is only human.

Readers, remember all book reviews are subject to opinion being that they are just that, opinions. Writers, it's tough out there. Arm yourself with a tech savvy editor that is painfully honest and has GPS.  Hopefully e-publishing formatting and editing issues will soon be a thing of the past.

Married Sex...Let's Get It On

I want to talk about married sex, or more accurately, sex when you have kids. For many of us it might as well be kayaking. The chemistry and sex is holy mother of hotness. Those scenes had my eyes glazing over unable to focus. 

Sam Crescent closes this book with a hint to another. Dare I say there is a Men in Control series on the rise? I have my fingers crossed. There are at least two men I would like to see get happy endings and I wouldn't mind seeing more from the two brothers we know nothing about.

This one is the perfect quicky at 113 pages and will leave you panting for some alone time with your significant other.

This story has a warrior, a shaman, a scout, dragon tattoos that move, a love goddess, and giant troll like creatures. The plot revolves around wicked m/f/m and even a little m/m/f sex but the story has enough adventurous action to make it worth reading again.

There is a lot of hubbub over the difference between paranormal and fantasy. Really? Really!

A paranormal has elements that can not be explained by science including not limited to psychic ability, magic, creatures such as vampires and shapeshifters, ghosts and time travel. Some of that can even be considered sci-fi.

A fantasy book has a mythical magic or supernatural setting, characters or plot and is often times set in a medevialish time period ie; Game of Thrones, Lord of the Rings...Yep, there is some difference but not much.

Some books have magical circumstances, some books have magical creatures, and some books just have magic. I personally don't really care whether it's labeled paranormal or fantasy as long as it's good. In this weeks feature we get all the fantasy elements with an added gothic feel.

I love a romance that is deemed, "Not for the faint of heart". Katrina Strauss's Secrets Revealed (Eldritch Legacy 1) is just that. Ms.Strauss sweeps past the boundary lines in Secrets Revealed, with a wickedly delicious out come. 

Secrets Revealed is a fantasy, in a medieval type setting, where kings rule the realm and if you get caught practicing magic you will be imprisoned and killed. Not for being a 'witch,' (that moniker isn't used once) but because the king himself is Magi and doesn't want anyone to become more powerful than he.

In Secrets Revealed young beautiful Inga is sick of all the death and needless illness in her village. Healers who could use nothing more then their knowledge of herbs will not help those suffering for fear of being taken by the evil Lord Eldritch.

Inga bravely uses her healing gifts for those in need and it's not long before those in power take notice. Although fearful of Eldritch coming to punish her, Inga also finds herself drawn to him in strange nightmares that leave her filled with carnal longing.

Lord Eldritch captures Inga but it's Inga who captivates him. Instead of having Inga killed she is locked in a separate dungeon room where things get really interesting. At first fearful Inga quickly becomes a thing of want, eagerly awaiting her next round of torment from her dark lord and master.

This twisted unconventional love story had me entranced. I wasn't sure what to expect next. There were plenty of scenes that had me thinking, Whoa....That's hot!, leaving me just as eager as Inga to see what Lord Eldritch had in store for her next.

Secrets Revealed takes some twisted turns that really kept me enthralled. I loved this book and I eagerly anticipate reading the next book in this series Lessons Learned, a book with a more paranormal bend. This was the first Katrina Strauss I've read but it will certainly not be my last.

This story is 190 pages and Katrina Strauss, you had me at your warning label.
