Breeder By Any Other Name

October has turned out to be a great month for sci-fi lovers! I've already posted on Kate Pearce's triad The Power Of Three The Power of Three - All Romance Ebooks and you'll have to stay tuned for Tracy St. John's Alien Caged already available at smashwords  http://www.smashwords.com/books/view/369557!

Now I would like to present Cara Bristol's first ever sci-fi Breeder.

Breeder by Cara Bristol

To secure his legacy, Commander Dak, a ruling Alpha of planet Parseon, purchases Omra, a breeder slave. He intends to impregnate her, produce a son, and hand her off to his anointed beta partner. As Dak and Omra discover a sexual bliss banned by law, he begins to question the traditions and ways of his people, causing him to jeopardize his command and endanger the life of the woman he has come to love.
I've been trying to pull myself together to write up something about this book that will do it justice but my mind is all...

Breeder is an emotionally stirring introspective look at a impassive patriarchal society that doesn't even have a word for love. Women are live stock. They are kept for breeding purposes only and an Alpha is not to debase himself by seeking pleasure on one. They are allowed to be used for sexual gratification by Betas but it's considered indecorous for an Alpha to exhibit any kind of regard for a breeder.

Alphas take Betas as anointed companions based on compatibility. Any sexual urges they have can be satisfied in a traditional manner on their Beta. To do otherwise is not only seen as a weakness it's against Protocol.

Dak is an Alpha commander and everything he has ever known is changed when he obtains a breeder. Omra awakens longings and emotions in Dak he should find aberrant, but still he's drawn to her. That along with her ability to obtain knowledge and sexual capacity for pleasure make him question the teachings of his world and what is truly best for his people.

Omra

Omra is so resilient. She has been cultivated not to question how she is treated, or have any expectations for life at all. Seeing the world, Parseon and Terran (Earth), from her eyes is really a trip. The passion and love that grows between Omra and Dak is palpable. The sensuality of their sexual discovery is off the charts, only made that much more exceptional by it's essence of the forbidden.

Alpha Commander Dak

Dak really stole the show for me. I completely fell in love with him. Dak is a born leader who deeply cares for the well being of his people and his world. His journey to do what's best for Omra, himself, and his people is truly moving.

Cara Bristol has outdone herself. Breeder is outstandingly well written. This book not only made me re-examine how I see the world but how others see the world. I'm a big fan of Sci-fi and I believe this story should rank as one of the best in Sci-fi erotic romance. I wasn't even halfway through when I realized it was going to be one of my personal favorites.

I was so enthralled with this book that I felt I needed an outside perspective. I actually had my historical romance reading buddy read this one. I asked her mainly because she doesn't normally read anything with violence/abuse towards women or even DD, so I knew she would help me see anything I was missing. She only affirmed that this was a great read.

This is her text after finishing the book, minus spoilers;
Just finished Breeder. I liked it, well written, kept me interested and on the edge of my seat. I could have done without one scene (implied violence to a breeder in market place), but it didn't annoy me or take me out of the story. I would read the next one in the series.
I'm interested to see how it will be received by her fans unaccustomed to Sci-fi. Personally, I love, love, LOVED it.

Warning: Breeder contains explicit m/f sexual activity, some m/m sexual practices and domestic discipline.
